FAA Medical Information

In order to fly an airplane, the pilot in command must generally be medically fit to fly the airplane. Depending on the type of pilot's certificate and the privileges of the certificate you're flying under, different types of medical certification is required.

For a Sport Pilot certificate, in general all a pilot requires is a valid and current US driver's license. Please see the Sport Pilot Medical Information link for detailed answers. The Cessna 162 and Aeroprakt A22LS aircraft that Leighnor Aircraft rents are light sport aircraft and can be flown with a Sport Pilot's certificate as a minimum requirement.

For a Private Pilot certificate, the minimum requirement is a 3rd. class medical certificate issued by an FAA designated Aviation Medical Examiner or you may fly under the new BasicMed rule.
